LOCAL LIVE TV

I started working at KVRX Student Radio in the summer of 2003. By the beginning of 2004, I was broadcasting on a graveyard shift FM DJ slot with my good friend Lucas Del Pico, and I was driven to keep finding more ways to participate at the station. Phil Goetz was starting to try to put together a joint effort between the student television and radio stations to film and broadcast sessions from our weekly local music program, Local Live. Local Live featured bands from Austin and the surrounding areas that would come and play a set live on air, every Sunday night. In February of 2004, I joined in by helping to edit the second episode of Local Live TV, featuring a band called The Normans, and then another which featured Waco band Ethan Durelle. I participated in filming a number of bands in our basement studio, and served as associate producer and editor, to boot. This was a great experience, and we learned a lot with each episode we produced. Eventually, the University tore the building down that housed our beloved basement, and KVRX moved to its present location in the CMA, adjacent to the TV station. While I regret that I never got to work on any of the episodes filmed in the fancy studio, I treasure the sessions we filmed in the basement, they help to keep my fond memories of that location alive. Local Live TV still airs on TSTV, only now it is just as live as its accompanying radio broadcast!
In this section, I have singled out tracks from a sampling of episodes I helped to film and/or edit. Sadly, most of these bands have broken up in the many years that have elapsed since the episodes were filmed.
